What is Roost Refresh?
Roost Refresh is a blend of hemp fines and dried herbs and flowers. Just like the Eaton Pet and Pasture hemp bedding that we all love, hemp fines are soft, lightweight, absorbent, hypoallergenic and antibacterial. The dried botanicals include lavender, calendula, basil, rose petals, lemon balm, blue corn flower, and rosemary. Each one chosen for its calming properties, aroma, or pest repellent ability. Every bag contains 1/2lb of dried botanicals! From the second you open the bag you will have a new favorite chicken chore!
Shelf Method
I love the shelf method because I am able to completely clean my coop in a matter of minutes. The chickens don’t have to breathe in ammonia at night, the flies stay away because I remove most of the droppings each day, and I have storage under the shelf! The floor of my coop stays free of droppings which means I don’t change the bedding very often! If you have a shelf in your coop, there are two ways you can use Roost Refresh.
- Cover the shelf with a light dusting of Roost Refresh. Each morning you will scrape the shelf with a shovel or dust pan. I like to toss it into the compost. Cover the shelf with a light dusting so it is ready for the next night. The coop will smell so clean when you are done!
- Dump the whole bag of Roost Refresh on the shelf and use a kitty litter scoop or sifting shovel to sift the droppings. I suggest doing this daily especially during spring and summer to avoid attracting flies to the droppings.
Without a Shelf
If you have a coop that does not utilize the shelf method, Roost Refresh will be great for you too! Simply fill the bottom of your coop with Roost Refresh or mix it with Eaton Pet and Pasture hemp bedding. I suggest a 2:1 ratio. I would add one bag of Roost Refresh to every two bags of hemp bedding. Use a sifting tool to spot clean as needed. Each time you clean you’ll be greeted with the signature Roost Refresh aroma!
When you use Roost Refresh, you are going to love hanging out in your coop! It will create such a lovely atmosphere you might not want to leave. I can’t wait for you to give it a try and come back with a review!
